Final Reflection: Varsity Soccer

Almost 5 years of playing Varsity Soccer have ended this year because I am graduating. This year was my last year of playing all the sports that I have played for about 5 years. So many emotions were passing by. However, I personally am proud of myself to finish all the seasons strong. Of course, I had so many problems or dramatic situations happening during playing Soccer that sometimes, I was so stressed out. But, I personally think that I was able to go through all those problems and end my season by being a great leader!

When our varsity team of this year was selected, I was a bit surprised and scared to finish the season strong. We had too many new players and they didn’t know how to handle the ball well. Well, I also am not a good ball controller but I had some experiences but they didn’t have any. I could always think positively but I couldn’t this time. It was even worse because most of the new players were playing as a defender. As a person who has high temper and who cannot control the anger well, I was literally shouting at everyone if they make silly mistakes. I know that I shouldn’t be doing that but I couldn’t control myself. I really regret doing those things now.

When we were keep on practicing soccer and working hard, my kicks started to get better and it went very far. Since I had many problems with my kicks last year, I was so happy and proud of myself. However, this couldn’t continue anymore. I injured my ankle so bad that I couldn’t kick as far anymore. I had to rest for about two weeks and keep put ice on my ankle. It seemed to get better but it was still very painful. Until now, I can’t straighten my ankle. The day after I got injured was a day when I was planning to try out for APAC. However, I couldn’t do that anymore because of my ankle! I was so annoyed that I was crying a lot. Most of people thought or still think that I cried because it was too painful. However, that wasn’t the reason why I cried! Well, I still could go to APAC. I think this gave me a lot of great experience. I got to know more people and I was able to learn a lot from this experience.

Since I was one of the starter and important player in our team, I was always so proud of myself and I never questioned about my skills. However, when I went to APAC, I felt different. I wasn’t a starter and there were some players who were way better than me. Sometimes, I couldn’t even get to play, which never happened to me for a long time. Honestly, I felt very bad and annoyed when these kinds of things happened to me. Well, still, I believe that I learned a lot from this experience.

Before going to APAC, I had a most important and last tournament at Brent Subic, ISAC! Since this was my last ISAC ever, I wanted to have a special role, which was someone who schedules call time and warm up time and also lead stretching. I also wanted to talk to our teammates after every single game. However, sometimes it couldn’t work that way.

When we had our first game against Brent Baguio, we were mostly dominating the game but we couldn’t finish strong that we lost against them by 1:0. It was very frustrating. Everyone knows that we deserve to win because we are better. However, we just couldn’t finish strong and score but also keep our goal safe. When we had a talk after this game, everyone was annoyed. I was supposed to try to let everyone to calm down and talk but I couldn’t. I felt that I need to be a better leader.

After that game, our team started to pick up our skills and work together to play our game. We tried not to give up even if someone scored against us. We worked hard together and communicated a lot. By doing this, our team could win a game against BSM. For about 4 years, maybe more than that, our team never won against BSM because they had strong players and they had great skills. However, our team worked really hard to score and also defend. I think during this game, our goal keeper, Fanny never touched the ball! I was so proud of our defenders! When this game finished, I was so happy. I think Izzy was also happy! We gathered around together and cried. I think we still have a picture of that! J

At the end, we finished this ISAC with getting 3rd place. It wasn’t bad! I honestly never thought that we actually can get 3rd place. However, we worked hard and got it! I am so proud of our team. We all tried our best and never gave up no matter what happened. I am so glad that I had this team to play with and I will miss this team so much! J

Varsity Soccer Journal #2

So many things happened during our soccer season.
I once cried in front of everyone because I couldn't take the anger anymore. Someone listened to me very well but someone didn't. The worst thing was that I coulnd't take the pain and anger anymore because that girl started mocking me in a very bad way. I had some problem with that girl before that I've talked to Mr.Davis about it before. He said he would help me if I need help. It really helped me to feel better!

However, I really coulnd't take the anger anymore that I cried in front of everyone. I didn't say the reason why I cried, but I think some of them must know about it because they caused it!!! hahah :)

I think those things got better at the end of the season. People started to listen better and talk to me more during the games that we could communicate a lot and pass the ball around.

Well, one problem occured around 2 weeks before the ISAC and one day before my APAC try-outs. My ankle got really bad. It was very purple that it looked like a sweet-potato from the Philippines!!! It was so swolle that I cound't see my ankle bone... I cried so hard when this happened. Yes, It was very painful but I hated the fact that I actully couldn't try out for APAC anymore. It was so annoying for me. well, i still could go to APAC but it would have beenway better if my ankle is good!

When our varsity team was first selected, I was honestly very scared to start the season. most of our team were not experienced with "Soccer." They didn't know what they were doing, and since MOST OF The NEW players were on defence, I was so annoyed and exhausted when playing with them. However, I tried my best to let them not feel uncomfortable and be proud of themselves for still playing with us and making the varsity team.

When we had our first game, it seemed like things were going on pretety well. However, I really had a hard time talking to teammates and lead them to listen to me. Some of them did not even bother to listen to me anymore.

When those things happened, I felt that I need to work harder and harder to really lead the team. Some things had to be fixed. People HAD to listen to me, especially those who are playing defence!

Well, i thought  could fix all the problems. However, i couldnt! hahahah things went pretty wrong. I could hear about people who were saying bad things about me jusT because I was LEADING them. That's my role but people woulnd't take it that way!

I still tried hard to make them to work harder and not feel down even if they make mistakes. I needed to lead them well. I tried to keep the anger to myself and still commit to the activities. If I don't, they will feel even worse than how I would feel. By doing these, I think I learned a lot. I have seen people who were feeling bad because of what I say. So, I tried even harder to make sure that everyone knows how much I am trying and so that everyone wouldn't feel bad anymore.
Of course, there were things which are not good and which has to be fixed and I think those will be all fine.

NHS Journal #11

After going to POCCH on thursday, I went back to the place on saturday!
When I went there the first time, we tried to know about the place, what they need, and so on.
The next time I went there was to talk to the supervisor and let them know that I am coming this saturday! However, I was also helping the club members to have fun together with the children there. So, I could get to know them pretty well. I thought them my name and I told them to not forget because I am coming back soon! :)

When our bus arrived, everyone was welcoming us! and one of the children came to me and said
"Ate Cindy!" and it was so touching!! Most of them remembered my name! They asked me where ate Ayan, Kuya Alan, and others are at. I told them that they are not here today but there are new people!

So, we started indroducng ourselves to each other. When I first asked "What's my name?" Everyone would scream out "Ate Cindy!" I was so happy! :) It was a good thing that I went to the place before having my actual project. I think it helped a lot!

After that, we played "Elbow Tag". It was REALLY HOT but I think I choce a right game for children because they really enjoyed it! My partner would scream "Dito!" or something.. I think it means like.."Here!"..not sure..haha

anyways, after that, we decided to give them some snacks and chocolate milk! this was because we actually had some extra money to spend on it and giving them something to eat would help them to calm down and concentrate!

So, we divided children into 3 groups and we explained about the importance of staying clean. We talked about why toothbrush, toothpaste, Hand Sanitizer and soap are important and how to use them.
then we distributed all the stuff to everyone. Actually, we had a lot of extras but I heard that more people will be back from vacation and then the number will be around 29 so I decided to buy 4 more of all the stuffs.

I think I really learned a lot from this experience. It was really good to have children remembering me and having fun!

I hope there wil be more chances to see them!

Also, I think peter will be continueing this project next year! So I hope he can do better job than me so that children would really learn from us!

When I had a short talk with Mr.T, I felt that I am so not ready to do my project. Everything was so fine when I was thinking about it but it wasn't that simple. I had to contact the person who is in charge of the children there, make sure that they know who I am, and have a chance to know each other.

However, I only planned what I will do but didn't think about the other stuffs. I felt really stupid and ashamed! I thought I am so ready but I wasn't! I wasn't being respectful to the people there..

I think it was a good think that I had a chance to talk to Mr.T! He reminded me of some of the things that I should be aware of. I should've have already talk to the supervisor of the children there so that they know that I am coming to help them out. If they dont know about it, what I am doing might have been liker "I got something for you, you guys better gather up and follow me." So, I decided to go with one of the clubs in our school! They were in contact with the place where I was planning to go and Mr.T allowed me to go with his group and talk to the person there.

I was pretty excited to go there because I will be able to get to know them and talk to the person who are in charge of the children there. I wouldn't be disrespecful to people there anymore if I make an appointment and help them out.

This trip to POCCH would really help me a lot to know about the children there and get along!

NHS Journal #9

These days, I am planning on visiting one place to provide some soap, toothbrush, and toothpaste. This is because a lot of children who are grown up in a poor family does not have these stuffs and maybe they do not even know how to use them. So, I will first teach them about the usage of them that children chould really be clean every single day!

I will bring some papers and pens so that group of children can write the usage of Soap, Tooth bruth, and tooth paste. My goal is to help them to be always clean that they wouldn't get sick.

Before everything starts, we will have a time to introduce ourselves to each other that we would know each other pretty well.

After that, we will play a short game to warm-up! I am still thinking about which one to choose and have fun! :)

Then, we will talk about the importance of toothbrush, toothpaste and soap!

I hope everything would go well.

Varsity Soccer Proposal

Student's name: Cindy Kwon

Supervisor's Name: Mr.Davis
Year: 12
Activity name: Soccer varsity team
Date(s) / Duration of Activity: The whole season is about 1 month, my actual project is 3 days

What is my past experience with this activity:
I have been part of this soccer team for about 4 years and this is the last ISAC that i will be able to play for. I was always a defender and I first started as a left defender and became stopper the following year. Right now, I am a sweeper who has the most of the responsibilty in defence. I played as a sweepter for about two varsity years.

What new learning or skill do I hope to pick up or develop?
I am suppose to really be cooperative with my teammates, especially with my defence players. However, I am planning on focusing n my past ISAC and be very responsible on it. I will try my best to lead my teammates and prepare for a schedule for every simgle games that our teammates will be very organized on meeting time and warming-up time. so, I should be able to be a leader who can make and lead people to listen to me. Also, as a captain and a sweeper, I will try my best to go talk to my teammates about how they are performing in our games. And I should try to talk gently to not huer my teammates.

How will this experience be different from that of the past?
Before, in all of the ISAC I have had before, I was never in charge of scheduling or even lead stretching. Also, I usually didn't talk  to my teammates to really let them be more comfident when playing and also help them to improve even if we actually do not have enough time to fix problems. I think encouraging is very important to let one to improve.

How am I going to know if I am making progress or experiencing growth in this activity?
The best way for me to know if I am making progress is talking to my superviso, Mr.Davis! By doing this, I will be aware of how I am responding to any kind of situations or if I'm hurting anyone.

Goals
My gols are to be able to make my teammates to be there on time when we need to meet before the game. Also, I really want to talk to my teammates about our performance in games. i really want to make our teammates to feel good and be prod of us after ISAC.

Impact
I will benefit because I will be able to learn from this experience. Also, my teammates will benefit becuase they will have someone to encourage them and they will be aware of their schedules!
